Kogi State Women have been told to key into the State Government initiative on Agriculture so as to be self reliant and empowered.
Wife of the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Tokunbo Awoniyi gave the advice in her message of felicitation to women of the state in her new year message.
Mrs Awoniyi commended the efforts of the Capt Idris Wada’s administration in the attention it has given to Agriculture. She urged women to strive to be financially empowered using agriculture.
She appealed to women to show more interest in governance and how their children are brought up as well as participate in decision making at home.
Mrs Awoniyi felicitated with Hajia Halimat Wada the founder and initiator of Kogi Women Empowerment Network for another new year, said the importance attached to Agriculture by the Wada led administration underscores the role it can play in providing gainful employment and in enhancing food security for the people.
Mrs Awoniyi described the KOWEN farm initiative and other empowerment programs initiated by the governor’s wife as some of her dogged determination towards uplifting the living standard of women in rural areas.
The Deputy Governor’s wife assured that the initiative of Hajia Wada in the out gone year will be sustained in the new year to enable rural women become self reliant.
The Deputy Governor’s wife urged women to see farming as a noble activity. She appealed to them to start up small size farms in their surrounding as such farms has the potentials to improve nutrition and save them money that would be used for other purposes.
Mrs Awoniyi commended the accelerated rice farm project of the state government in 2013, said the project was well embraced by the women through their co-operative societies.
While thanking God for the new year, Mrs Awoniyi prayed for peace to reign supreme in the state in the new year and for Gods divine wisdom for the Capt Idris Wada’s administration.
