Frontline politician and House of Representatives aspirant, Architect Idris Salman has challenged youths from Kogi West senatorial district to devout more time to strategic thinking in their quest for political leadership.
In a chat with our correspondent in Lokoja on Wednesday, Salman said leadership traits are not latent. Salman is a top contender for Kabba-Bunu/Ijumu House of Representatives seat.
He explained that youths with quality leadership qualities are easily identified and supported for positions of responsibility.
Commenting on the Kogi West Youth Dialogue, Salman called for conscious succession plan that will ensure the oncoming generation sustain the legacies of current true leaders.
“Leadership qualities are not not latent, they manifest irrespective of demography. Once the youth have undergone pupilage in leadership training, consciously or subconsciously, he or she is prepared for position of responsibility. A true leader knows that legacies shall be preserved and his short comings can be re-engineered for the good of the society by their heir.
“Basically the youth require lots of capacity building in whatever venture they have engaged in, especially those values that are core to societal development.
“Youth should depart from unnecessary exuberance and embrace virtues of strategic thinking with vigor and the future, of course, is assured for us all.
“As someone who still find himself in that youth strata, I believe I can best capture my opinion within the confines of the societal norms. Our youth can be more productive if the challenges posed on them by the society had been a little more comforting. Poverty coupled with infrastructural decay seems to be limiting the potential exploration of our youth. The hope lies in the zeal with which our youth wish to succeed. With the earnest will of our youths I think the future is bright,” he said.
The Kogi West Youth Dialogue is scheduled to hold on Saturday 25th November at Idrinana Hotel, Lokoja.
