Kogi West Women Organise Free Medical Outreach in Okene

The inability to pay medical bills by pregnant women has been addressed as a reason for high maternal mortality rate in rural areas.

Wife of the Kogi State Deputy Governor, Tokunbo Awoniyi, made the remarks at a free medical outreach organized by Kogi West Women in collaboration with Otorhinolaryngolical Society of Nigeria and Redeemed Christian Church of God, London, held in Okene.

Mrs. Awoniyi, said the absence of medical facilities for pregnant  women to access and their inability to pay for their medical bills is a problem that calls for concern.

The Wife of the Kogi State Deputy Governor, said the program which was geared towards complementing the vision of Capt Idris Wada the State Governor in improving the health of Kogi people, could not have come at a better time than now.

The free medical which she noted was to complement the free rural quarterly program of the State Government, is also geared towards ensuring that women live a healthy life.

Mrs. Awoniyi commended the role of Hajia Halimat Wada, wife of the Kogi State Governor in making the well – being of women in the State a priority, said the importance for women to seek early medical attention, that usually lead to death of pregnant women and children deserves the attention of all, and said it should not be left in the hands of government alone.

The  free medical program which offered free consultation and medical materials to women in the State, was also held in Dekina and Idah.

While in Okene, Hon Yahaya Karaku, SSA1 of Okene Local Government Area, commended the initiatives of the Western Women, in extending a hand of fellowship to women of his area, landed the gesture as one that will help improve the health needs of the people.
