Otunba Olayemi Adeniyi, popularly known as Somi Edumare, has recently resigned from the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP).
Adeyemi, a Kogi West senatorial aspirant in the 2023 PDP primary elections, hails from Kabba-Bunu local government area.
During a meeting with Governor Yahaya Bello, the governor said it was evident that their departure from the struggling party did not come as a surprise to him.
Governor Bello emphasized the importance of accommodating opposition party members into the progressive movement of the All Progressives Congress (APC). He highlighted the growth of the APC in Kogi State, citing the achievements of his administration and their dedication to providing good governance for the people.
The governor warmly welcomed the former PDP member, stating that the doors of the APC were open to anyone willing to contribute to the development of the state.
During their meeting at Lugard House in Lokoja on Monday, Hon. Adeniyi explained his decision to quit the PDP and join the APC. He expressed admiration for the laudable achievements of the APC administration led by Governor Yahaya Bello.
Hon. Adeniyi specifically mentioned the establishment of another state-owned university in Okunland as a strategic move that has endeared the governor to the hearts of Okun sons and daughters worldwide.
When discussing the upcoming 2023 gubernatorial election, Hon. Adeniyi pledged his commitment to ensuring the APC’s victory at the polls. He described Hon Ododo Ahmed Usman as a humble administrator who would sustain the legacy of the current administration.
In anticipation of the November governorship election in the state, there has been a wave of defections from opposition parties to the APC.
