The State Auditor, Kogi state chapter of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Paul Oludoyi, has berated a Kogi West senatorial aspirant, Otunba Adeniyi Olayemi for engaging in campaign of calumny.
Speaking after Olayemi’s visit to party delegates in Mopamuro local government on Monday, Oludoyi expressed dissatisfaction with the aspirant’s speech which he said was laced with insults and character assassination of fellow aspirants.
He urged him to be more matured in his approach to politics and imbibe the spirit of sportsmanship.
“I was told he will come at 10am and had to defer my journey to wait for him as I have not been attending his previous campaign visits. He did not come until 2.30pm on Monday.
“I had nothing against him, there are no aspirants that will come to Mopamuro LGA that I will not talk, but none had ever insulted him or anybody.
“Prince Jambright Sumanu talked for about an hour but didn’t insult anybody. When their principal, Otunba Adeniyi Olayemi Alias Somi Edumare, took over the microphone, it was all insults and blackmails, to the 3 other aspirants -Hon T J Yusuf, Senator Dino Melaye and Hon Samuel Bamidele Aro – calling them unprinted names.
“His speech was full of character assassinations and blackmails. Calling other aspirants names like 419ners, rouges, cheaters etc. He was full of campaign of calumny, dodging his main campaign issues, but pretending to know the Pope more than the pious.
“He was busy insulting and castigating the three of other aspirants aforementioned non-stop throughout his one hour campaign of insults and blackmails.
“He said what they spend in Mopamuro LGA are peanuts, compared to what they spent in other LGAs, He specifically mentioned Lokoja / Koto LGAs. He said none of them performed well when they were in their respective offices / political positions, in the House of Representatives and Senate. That at times they collected N100million or above as constituency projects allowances and fail to carry out their primary assignments but pocket it and will not bring anything home. That some of them don’t have money but waited for friends to sponsor them.
“Some of the delegates were already clapping to sit him down as they were fed up with his long speech of insults and blackmail. Some even challenged him openly as he was making his long and useless speeches,” he said.
Oludoyi said the visit did not end well because the aspirant and his boys interrupted him in the course of his intervention.
He wondered how Olayemi will feel if other aspirants are going round various local governments castigating him.
“Before the microphone was passed to me, you remembered the type of questions you were asking the delegates and others there, but none answered you. That was because the questions were uncalled for and very funny.
“You were asking them to confirm if they will all vote you that the others were useless. You can’t get that type of commitments in Mopamuro because we are no fools. Those you were busy damaging their hard earned reputations were there before you and we know their antecedents and previous performances, but not yours.
“I pleaded with you to campaign with issues, not with unnecessary blackmail of other three aspirants, whom you said had not done anything. I started mentioning what each of them had done to the best of my understanding and knowledge. Campaign to us with what you will do for us when you get there.
“You grew annoyed and interrupted my speech along with some of your boys and few others whom are not delegates. They thought they will be able to rake in some money from you Otunba Olayemi Adeniyi alias Somi Edumare, even with their bad actions. They misbehaved, but didn’t get anything. They must have learnt their lessons, in a bitter way.
“As a party man, none of other three had ever insulted or blackmailed you or other aspirants. If they did, I would have reacted same way too. I am not a man of violence but I am used to speaking the truth at my age.”
Oludoyi said nobody knows who will emerge as the winner of PDP senate ticket until the voting by the delegates are over. He wished all aspirants and the party well.
