Kogi State University (KSU) Ambassador of Advancement, Dr. Akoji Ocheja has described the election of Dr. Aminu Musa Audu to the board of trustees of the British Sociological Association as a collective joy that added a feather to Sociology Department of the Anyigba-based institution.
Ocheja, the acting head of department of Sociology Department in KSU, made this known in a congratulatory message to Dr. Aminu on his election and appointment as director of membership services and event.
“I recognize with joy your distinguishing qualities identified and rewarded at the peak of Western education and at the very beginning or root of it in Nigeria (The United Kingdom). It is a wake-up call to all Sociologists out there and way back at home in Nigeria.
“Your scholarship is really Sociology in practice. I congratulate you from Kogi State University (KSU), as the University Ambassador of Advancement and to let you know that the news was received with heroic joy by all of us. Private wealth impoverishes everyone but public wealth enriches all; in like manner, your success is a collective joy to all of us as it adds a feather to Sociology department, Kogi State University, Kogi state, Nigeria, the highly-rated University of Liverpool and the entire community of Sociologists across the globe.
“I recall that this appointment is an addition to the plethora of appointments and awards you won over the years right from your undergraduate through postgraduate days till date. More grease to your ankle. We are eternally proud of you and we pray that God keeps you to fulfil all your dreams.
“You won’t be like ‘The Denied Scholars’ in Sociology, W.E.B. Du bois and Ibn Khaldun, whose foundational roles in the scientificity of Sociology was swept under the carpet until lately that their ideas are re-projected and moved toward their canonization but rather the recognized Sociologist. This, you started with your ground-breaking thesis on community policing in Nigeria, which evidenced the fact that a Ph.D thesis is a contribution to knowledge in an unprecedented form.
“Your contributions on social issues in Nigeria depict contacts with the academic spirits of the founding fathers of Sociology. Truly, when there is no justice for the people, government should not have peace. No weapon or violence can vanquish the people once they decide to fight for their rights, and liberty is not begged but won by the sharp blade of the machete. The man will continue to die in all who keep silent in the face of tyranny. We are facing the wretched of the earth & face-to-face with the stark realities of J.S Nye’s definition of corruption. I absolutely agree with all your write-up about the misrule back at home. Ride on, and may God continue to direct you,” he said.
In his response, Dr Aminu Audu said: “I am happy for the solidarity of a worthy colleague, Dr Akoji Ocheja. I feel extremely thrilled by this show of love in support of my effort toward making human society peaceful and this would verily serve as motivation for my research career in Britain.”
