The Kogi State government has been called upon to intervene in the ongoing crisis between Agatu people of Benue State, residents of Omala Local Government Area of the state and herdsmen.
A member representing Omala state constituency at the House of Assembly, Aliyu Aku, made the call yesterday.
He said the state government’s intervention in the matter was expedient in putting an end to the killings going on in the area.
The lawmaker appealed to the leadership of House to prevail on the Kogi State Police Command to deploy more officers to the area, so that the crisis would not escalate to other parts.
Speaker of the House, Momoh jimoh Lawal, said a meeting will be held with the state commissioner of police and the State Security Services to deliberate on ways of addressing the crisis.
He called for collaborative efforts among security agents in the state to avert the spread of the crisis.
