Kogi University Don Emerges Chief Scribe of Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria

Dr. Daniel Ojochenemi Apeh of the Faculty of Natural Sciences, Kogi State University Anyigba, has emerged as the General Secretary of the Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria (MSN).

The election took place at the Annual General Meeting of the society during its 14th annual conference which held at the main campus of the University of Abuja, Nigeria between 26th to 29th September, 2021.

On taking over the leadership, the President appointed Prof. T.S. Anjorin of University of Abuja, as coordinator of training and Dr. (Mrs) Tayo Imafidon of NAFDAC as Coordinator of research.

He said the appointment of zonal coordinators and the society’s editor will be announced in the coming days.

These set of executives are expected to pilot the affairs of the society for the next two years.

The president, in a brief acceptance speech, appreciated the leadership of her predecessor, Dr (Mrs) Bosede Folashade Oluwabamiwo and emphasized that the new executives require advices and periodic inputs from the previous leaders to achieve greater heights for the society.

The event had in attendance among many, the Secretary to State Government, Kogi State Dr. (Mrs) Folashade Arike Ayoade who delivered a lead speech on the “Harmonization of Laboratory Data and Policy Document”, the DG/CEO of Sheda Science and Technology Complex, Abuja, Prof. P.C. Onyenekwe; the DG Nigeria Agricultural Quarantine Services (NAQS), Dr Vincent Isegbe; Vice-Chancellor, University of Abuja, Prof. AbdulRasheed Na’Allah; Senior Staff of NAFDAC, SON, National Biosafety Management Agency, National Biotechnology Development Agency (NABDA), President Nigerian Society for Microbiology and Biotechnology Society of Nigeria, Prof. M.B. Yerima, researchers and the academia.

The Mycotoxicology Society of Nigeria (MSN) is a body of scientists in the academia, research, industry, government and non-governmental organizations, farmers and other relevant stakeholders in the food and feed sectors in Nigeria.

The just concluded conference had the theme “Mycotoxin Hazards and Management in a Developing Economy: Food Security, Health and Trade Perspectives”.

Other elected Executives are: President – Dr. Yemisi A. Jeff-Agboola, Associate Professor of Microbiology at the University at Medical Sciences, Ondo City); Vice President North – Dr. Danladi Abba, National Agency for Food and Drugs Administration and Control (NAFDAC), Kano Office; Vice President South – Mrs. Talatu Ethan, Standards Organisation of Nigeria (SON), Lagos; Financial Secretary – Mrs. Toyin Adebiyi (NAFDAC, Lagos); Public Relations Officer – Dr. Olaitan O. Olajuyigbe, Nigerian Institute for Oceanography and Marine Research, Lagos; Treasurer – Mrs. Comfort Arannilewa (SON, Lagos); Auditor – Prof. M.D. Makut, Professor of Microbiology, Nassarawa State University, Keffi; and Assistant General Secretary – Dr. Titilayo Falade, International Institute for Tropical Agriculture (IITA), headquarter Ibadan).
