The Kogi State Commissioner of Sports, Puke Anthony could be counting his days in office if relegation-bound Kogi United drops from the Nigeria second tier, we have reliably gathered.

A top source close to the state governor, Captain Idris Wada who pleaded anonymity indicated that it may be the end of the road for the Commissioner should the team get relegated, noting “if Kogi United goes down, he is fired”.

We gathered that the increasing tension over the critical situation of Kogi United has continued to generate some concern for Governor Idris Wada after knowledge that the Nigeria National League club is on the verge of been relegated.

The disturbing situation instigated the governor to have delegated his personal assistant to watch the Kogi United week-28 match against JUTH FC of which they did won 2-1 at the Confluence Stadium, Lokoja last Saturday.

According to the source, highlight of the meeting witnessed the indictment of the Ministry of Sports over the short-falls in funds released week-in, week-out to facilitate Kogi United were among other blames directed at the Sports Ministry under the leadership of Honourable Puke Anthony.

The governor according to source, promised to give special attention and full-support to the club last three games including the rescheduled match against FC Taraba on Saturday in desperate measure to stay the club in the Nigeria National League.

With latest government contingency plans for Kogi United relegation survival, the outstanding game against FC Taraba expected to be played behind closed doors will remain the make-it or break-it in relegation survival for Kogi United who are four points adrift of Spotlight FC.
