Kogi United FC have been crowned champions of 2016 Kogi State FA Cup after defeated their city rivals FC Lokoja by a lone goal in the final.
The final match which took place at the Lokoja Confluence Stadium on Sunday saw the Confluence Boys winning the nerve wrecking game courtesy of John Jerome’s 27th minutes penalty after Destiny Ashadi was fouled in the box.
The FC boys almost level up with a wonderful attack but goalkeeper Detan Ogundare salvaged the game for the Coach Ishaya Jatau team.
Witnessed by an impressive crowd including the Special Adviser to Kogi State Governor Alhaji Yahaya Bello on Student Affairs, Youth Empowerment and Sports, Comrade Arome Adoji.
The state owned club also had a chance to increase the tally on numerous occasions but were unlucky to convert their chances.
FC Lokoja got a trophy and a set of jersey as runner-up while Champions Kogi United were presented with a trophy and two set of jerseys.
Chairman of Kogi United, Mallam Abdul Sule expressed delight with his side’s victory adding that the club would represent the state creditably at the national Federation Cup.
Head Coach of the Confluence State club, Ishaya Jatau who admitted that FC Lokoja gave his side a tough challenge noted that it was a real test for Kogi United to get prepared for the league.
Both Kogi United and FC Lokoja missed out on last year’s final having list out in the semi-finals but will however, flying Kogi State flag in 2016 Federation Cup.
