Kogi United’s celebration for their hard fought goalless draw against Adamawa United on Saturday in Fufore was short lived as the club received the death of the father of their captain, Ismaila Mayaki.
Just as the Confluence State club were leaving the Atiku Abubakar Stadium, the news of Alhaji Idris Mayaki’s death filtered into the team’s bus and the mood of victory was quickly changed to mourning one.
Aged 70 years, Alhaji Idris Mayaki died late on Friday after a brief illness.
He is survived by wife, children and grand children including Kogi United captain, Ismail.
Alhaji have since been buried according to Islamic rights and injunction.
Meanwhile, the management of Kogi United have commiserated with the family of their captain Ismail Mayaki over the death of his father, Alhaji Idris Mayaki who died on Saturday after a brief illness.
In a statement signed by the club’s Team Manager, Ameh Henry, it described Alhaji Mayaki as a sports loving man who encouraged his wards to take active part in sports with education.
It prayed God to grant him eternal rest and to give the family fortitude to bear his demise.
