The Kogi State Internal Revenue Service said on Friday that it had concluded plans to clampdown on tax defaulters in the informal sector.
Mallam Ahmed Musa, Executive Chairman of the Service, told newsmen in Lokoja that the agency had compiled a comprehensive list of tax evaders in the state.
He said that more than 1,000 business outfits in the Lokoja business area were captured in the tax system.
Musa said that the exercise was to meet the state government’s internally generated revenue (IGR) target of eight billion Naira for 2014.
He said that the government would take legal action against defaulters to serve as deterrent to others.
According to him, the government would soon inaugurate newly recruited revenue officers to ensure effective tax collection.
