The Joint Action Committee (JAC) of Tertiary institutions in Kogi state has passed a vote of no confidence on the Staff Screening Complaints Appeal Committee inaugurated by the state governor, Yahaya Bello on Monday.
JAC ordered the state government to pay its workers all their salaries both cleared and uncleared before 7 days starting from 23rd to 30th January, 2017.
It stressed that if the conditions are not met, they will be forced to declare an indefinite industrial action on Tuesday 31st January, 2017.
They observed in it’s 6th communique issued at the Kogi state teaching hospital Ayangba that no member of the tertiary institutions was coopted into the appeal committee adding that the government should do the needful.
It said the cleared and uncleared list sent to tertiary institutions were marred with inconsistencies and irregularities.
In a statement signed by the chairman, Joseph Shuaibu, JAC observed that the governor was misguided on the regulatory laws operational in the tertiary institutions adding that there was a disregard for laws guiding the institutions by subverting the laws of the federal Republic of Nigeria on retirement age
It resolved that they are forwarding a letter to the Kogi state Judiciary on the violation of laws in the condition and retirement age in the tertiary institutions.
JAC advised the state government to take a bold step by decentralising the appeal committee because those who would be rescreened have not been paid, so transportation may not be affordable as suggested in their earlier communique.
It said “the appeal committee should authenticate at the issuing institutions all claims made to the possession of results which certificate are not available, while honoring attestation from the institution adding that they shall not tolerate any form of intimidation or harassment of its members during the course of the screening”.
