The Association of Indigenous Students of Kogi state on Friday appealed the state governor, Yahaya Bello to either pay the agreed bursary incentives or refund the N650 used to register for the scholarship scheme.
Recall a portal was launched by Kogi state government last year where Kogi state students nationwide applied for a bursary incentives at N650 per student as application fee.
However, it is over a year since students applied for the bursary but the Kogi state government never find it worthy to consider the payment of the bursary to the students who have taken to the social media to express their grievances over what they describe as negligence on the part of the former to meet the needs of the students.
According to reports, several government functionaries like the Chief of staff, Mr. Edward Onoja promised in last June that the bursary will be paid in July but nothing has been done in this regard.
Similarly, one Mr. Joshua Omonu (Levels Pumping), who is the Special Senior Adviser to Kogi state governor on students affairs, also promised that the students’ bursary incentives will be paid before the end of last month (September) but failed to keep to the side of the bargain.
In a letter making rounds on social media, the students urged the government to do the needful if only it truly has the interest of the students at heart as purported by the New Direction government.
“At this point, we solicit for the intervention of the governor to pay the bursary to the students or refund their #650 to their various accounts.
“We can not longer wait in futility for any deceptive promises! The government should please refund our money if its found the bursary payment unnecessary.
“The indigent students shouldn’t be exploited by the same government that supposed to provide palliative assistance to the students,” the letter reads.
All efforts to reach the state government so as to clear air over the matter proved abortive as at the time of filing this report.
