Kogi State Government has disclosed that its responsiveness towards the plight of flood victims across the State is what has made it to still be among the few states yet to have closed its camps.
Arc. Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State Deputy Governor, stated this while on a visit to the remaining relief camp in Lokoja, located along Lokoja-Kabba road.
Despite the receding of the floods and the return of several persons to their homes, the State Government he noted has constantly provided food stuff, water and security to the relief camps still operated.
The Deputy Governor reiterated that while the State Government will render assistance to those displaced, its intention, he stated is not to share donations received.
Awoniyi, pointed out that the bulk of the money received by the State, is largely intact, said the government has not shied from its responsibility of providing and distributing relief materials to those still remaining in its relief camps.
While acknowledging the gratitude expressed by those genuinely affected, the State Deputy Governor frowned at misinformation being peddled by miscreant over the handling and welfare of the displaced victims.
The State Government, Awoniyi, restated will remain very vigilant as it prepares to render assistance in cash and in kind to those genuinely affected.
The Deputy Governor, called on those affected to be patient as the State Government has just concluded a two weeks exercise aimed at assessing the extent of damages done to farmlands and buildings by the floods.
In their separate remarks, Aisha Imam, Ali Oki and Rabi Yaro, commended the State Government for its support since the flood. They praised governmentโs efforts at providing them with foods and other necessary materials needed to improve their wellbeing.
