Kogi State Varsity Inaugurates SUG Executives

Kogi State University Anyigba has on Tuesday 3rd September 2019 inaugurated the elected officials of the Students’ Union Government (SUG) Executive council. This was followed by the directive issued by the Dean Students Affairs Professor S.S Arogba on Friday 30th August 2019 .

In line with the directive, the elected officials of the executive council were conveyed at the university Senate Chamber an hour earlier than the time for the inauguration proper which was slated to take off exactly 11am. With the university Vice Chancellor M.S Abdulkadir arriving few minutes later, the Dean Students Affairs declared the inauguration open. This was in the presence of the members of the University Senate Council.

The inauguration of the executive was coming after more than a month from the date of the conduct of the elections to the executive council. The elections however led to emergence of Comrade Muhammed Hadi Idris as the Union’s executive President, Enemona Daniel as the Secretary General and  Abubakar Onu Farouk as the Financial Secretary, the position of the Vice President was however declared vacant owing to the disqualification of the aspirants for numerous reasons..

While admonishing the executives, the Vice Chancellor M.S Abudulkadir challenged them to pool their individual strengths together towards the achievement of their administration. Reacting, he said “there is always much you can achieve by working together as a team.” Preferring them to begin their administration with honour and respect, he noted he would never be happy seeing them embarrassing themselves on the social media as that disparage the image of the Union and the University.

Shortly after the Vice Chancellor was the Dean Students Affairs who used the ceremony to recount his experience with the outgone administration and advised them to adjust to any conflicting situation their administration may be confronted with. To that end he remarked, “the Union as a body has organs and grievances amongst you should be exhausted at the appropriate unit before coming to the management for any complaint”. That to him is a demonstration of political maturity and awareness of the conduct of governance.

The Union Executive President Hadi while thanking the University Management for her commitment to students’ Union activities promised to maintain a robust relationship between the university Management and the Union. He called upon all the Excos to remain truly committed to the mandate given to them.

The Union Secretary General, Daniel Enemona Adejoh on his part promised to keep a Union Secretariat whose doors and windows shall be open to the Excos for activities. He assured the Excos that their administration is ” the one that will work.” The Financial Secretary Onu Farouk equally used the medium to emphasize that the financial dealings of the Union under their administration shall be prudently kept to account.

The just inaugurated student union executive council is composed of the following: The President Muhammed Hadi Idris, Secretary General Daniel Adejoh Enemona, Assistant Secretary General Muhammed Ali Enemona,  Treasurer Augustina Onogu,  Financial Secretary Farouk Abubakar Onu, Director of Welfare Abimaje Farouk, Director of Transport Adah Olobo and the Director of Women Affairs Ahmed Sumayyah.

The inauguration was greeted by host of well-wishers, all members of the Union especially the stakeholders of various departments. The President of the Union used the occasion to appeal to them to be confident in the administration and the administration’s determination to succeed and protect the interests of the students.
