At the heels of the governorship election petitions with effect from tribunal down to the supreme Court, Kogi State online political platforms was as active as the resolve of the children of Israel to migrate from Egypt to their promised land. The online activeness is even the least as virtually all homes and office desks where turned to places of worship as a result of the wish of majority of Kogi State masses for God to remove Yahaya Bello through a supreme Court ruling for either a fresh election or reinstatement of another candidate.
But, alas as the saying goes~”the ways of God is different from the ways of man”, the incumbent governor survived and went with ease all legal tussles surrounding his governorship ever since the September 20th judgement which upheld the lower tribunal and court of appeal judgements. Like a sporting game which there must always be a winner and a looser, the appellants accepted the judgement in good faith and urged their various supporters to move on with life. To this, I thought the best time has come for both the governor and the state. For the governor; he is now free from distractions to focus on governance if he truly has the zeal and for the state; prosperity shall plant it’s seed via active opposition, return to drawing boards and preparations for the far but close 2019 general elections.
However, after a month later, Kogi State seem very deserted of ideas and way forward. The new direction government is rather than unveiling programs/innovations that will affect lives positively re-awarding previously awarded projects and political sycophants cum jobbers whose only venture for survival is hypocrisy are flooding the online media with this reverse direction. Most worrisome is the fact that “Kogi State opposition parties has somehow gone low like political captives” rather than to reinforce with eagle eyes on the economic policies and steward of the ruling government so as to know where to heat the shot and when to raise dusts for public consciousness and sympathies. With this awkward but real developments-Kogites, reminisce and reflect, any hope?
Is it that the barking dogs have become toothless? Has the self acclaimed political chieftains and stakeholders gone on exile or all the swift voices that was setting AYB on track has suddenly diminished to deaf and dumb? Is PDP still existent in Kogi State? Has APGA gone on allegiance with the APC or the Labour Party has collapsed her structure into the new direction government? All this questions call for urgent answers because according to Albert Einstein-“the world is a dangerous place to live-not because of the people who are evil but because of the people who don’t do anything about it”
The success of a leadership is the progress of the society and by implication, it is my earnest prayers that the Yahaya Bello led administration of Kogi State break grounds in terms of human and infrastructural development. However, it still bounds on me and all those who share similar vision to rise in agitation for good governance and accountability to the Kogi people. This is a price we owe generations yet unborn and history shall be kind to whoever upholds this belief. More so, those within the structure of this government must realize that by virtue of providence and their public responsibility owes it as a duty to represent their various interest group and communities well because in the end, this long like voyage will seem just like an hour ride.
