Former candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP) in the 2019 House of Representative election, Sani Idakwo Philips, has enjoined citizens from Kogi State to rise in support of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, stating that the President means well for the country.
Idakwo who made this known in a statement made available to newsmen stated that citizens from Kogi State, especially those from the Igala-Bassa extraction has every reason to be grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
Part of the statement reads;
“Citizens from Kogi State and indeed Igala – Bassa indigenes, have sufficient and germane reasons to be grateful to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu (GCFR) for his goodwill (both past and present) towards the state and especially to the Igala – Bassa people.
“It was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who, despite the refusal of then President Muhammadu Buhari, chose to support the late Prince Abubakar Audu / James Faleke; standing boldly by them until fate had its way.
“It was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who in his bid to revive the Ajaokuta steel company, graciously assigned a Minister (an Igala) from the state to lead the process.
“It was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who though being an APC member chose not to shield and interfere in the prosecutions of a corrupt State Chief Executive of his own party in Kogi State.
“It was President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who through his doggedness as expressed by the OAGF ensured financial autonomy for LGA’s in Nigeria and,
“It is President Bola Ahmed Tinubu who through the tax reform bill currently before the National Assembly seeks to ensure a gradual increase in the rate of VAT for goods and services from the present 7.5 percent, to 15 per cent by 2030.”
Idakwo advised those moving aimlessly around the presidential villa, spreading negative insinuations against the good and amiable people of Igala – Bassa, to desist forthwith as the people of Igala – Bassa are not against President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.
He further stated that those who seek to sow the seeds of discord and stoke the flames of division against the people of Igala – Bassa should know that the people are aware of their old serpentine crafty strategies which they used against them in time past.
“The interest we share as citizens from Kogi State are far more than the forces that wishes to tear us apart,” he said.
