The attention of our great party,People’s Democratic Party (PDP) has been drawn to an announcement of defection of six (6) of its members on the floor of state house assembly on the 16th of March 2017 to the ruling All Progressive Congress (APC).

While it is desirable to draw the attention of the house of assembly defectors to the constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria (1999) as amended, which they swore to uphold and defend, which clearly states the qualifications for election as a member of a state  house of assembly, to section 106(a) of the constitution, a person is qualified to be elected into the state House of Assembly if “He is a member of a political Party and he is sponsored by that party”.In a related vein, the constitution in section 109(g) also prescribed the tenure of seat of members. It states  inter alia that “a member of a state house of assembly shall vacate his seat  in the house if-“being a person whose election to the house was sponsored by a political party, he becomes a member of another political party before the expiration of the period for which that house member was elected “
While we condemn in totality the action of the house members who rode on the crest of the  PDP into  power, but now turning to bite the fingers that fed them,we must emphasize that our party has put in place all necessary and constitutional machinery to reclaim the mandate for the PDP. They must vacate their seats immediately.
It is  indeed disheartening that rather than join hands with  the party to take over power from this administration that has refused to conduct local government elections in the state, those nomadic members have betrayed our party by joining forces to further ruin the state by looking for positions to feather their nest through promotion of illegality.
We wish to call on all our teaming supporters, well wishers and the good people of our state to remain calm and  continue to support our party as we put every measure in place to ensure that power is restored back to the people.
The sun will definitely shine again…..
