Kogi State: A Land of Wealth Living in Poverty — A Call for Presidential Intervention

Kogi State, the Confluence of Nigeria and the cradle of her early governance, stands today as a paradox of destiny — a land richly blessed yet painfully impoverished. With 29 solid mineral resources, from iron ore, limestone, coal, and gold to marble and bauxite, Kogi should rightfully be among the most industrialized and prosperous states in Nigeria. Instead, it carries the burden of neglect, underdevelopment, and economic stagnation.

It is both symbolic and ironic that Kogi was the first administrative seat of governance in Nigeria, yet it now ranks among the poorest states in the nation. The vast mineral deposits that could drive industrial growth, job creation, and infrastructure development remain untapped or poorly managed. Ajaokuta Steel Company, once envisioned as the industrial heartbeat of Africa, lies dormant — a national asset abandoned in the shadows of political bureaucracy.

Mr. President, the time to act is now. Kogi State deserves a new deal for development — one that prioritizes the revitalization of Ajaokuta Steel Complex, encourages local and foreign investment, and ensures that the wealth beneath Kogi soil translates into prosperity above ground. The federal government must take a deliberate step to transform Kogi into the industrial hub it was destined to be.

Our youths are intelligent, industrious, and eager to contribute, but they lack opportunity. Our communities sit on gold and iron yet live in poverty and unemployment. This is not just an economic injustice — it is a national contradiction.

Kogi should be a symbol of Nigeria’s industrial revolution, not a reflection of failed potential. Let the federal government partner with Kogi’s leadership to open a new chapter — one defined by economic empowerment, industrial development, and social progress.

Mr. President, Kogi State is ready. All we ask is action.
