…TUC views the composition of this committee as that of an old wine in a new bottle.

The attention of the Trade Union Congress (TUC) Kogi State Council has been drawn to the antics of the Screening Appeal Committee’s  Technical committee ordering its representative on the committee, and the assistant state secretary of the TUC of the state to stay away from the all important assignment. No reason has been adduced for this dastard action.

It will be recalled that on Monday 23rd January 2017, the Executive Governor of Kogi State, Alhaji Yahaya Bello in Government House, Lokoja inaugurated a 32 man appeal committee (with the Assistant State Secretary of TUC as a member) to attend to issues that arose out of the long and tortuous staff screening exercise which commenced on 22nd February 2016.

We are not unmindful of the antics of the so-called sub-technical committee comprising of Okala, Ododo and Hajia Ladi and others who were of the previous and immediate past committee that has thrown the state into a monumental crisis arising from the civil service screening report recently released by the state government.

Kogites will remember that the report of Dr. Agbaji was tore into shred out of malice by both Okala and Ododo who again have assumed supremacy even over the chairman of the current committee.

We make bold to bring to the notice of the chairman of the committee, Mr. Ayuba J. Y. not to allow himself to be used to achieve a dastardly act of both Okala and Ododo as history will not forgive him and his institution (ASCON) both here on earth and beyond. We are therefore using this medium to request the so called technical committee to retrace its steps by allowing all members of the appeal committee as inaugurated access to its assignments or we may have no other option than to collaborate with the NLC and other affiliates to call on all our representatives on the committee to boycott further participation on the committee’s assignment.

The TUC views the composition of this committee as that of an old wine in a new bottle. This follow the decision coming from the committee to even threaten the chairman of the state Nigeria Medical Association (NMA), Dr. Ogaragwu Magnus by Okala over his comments at the committee’s sittings.

We are hereby calling on the state governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello to realise urgently that the state cannot afford another round of the exercise that will gulp several millions of naira if he allows the antics of Okala and Ododo to again rubbish the good intention of the government. We expect the state government to appreciate the support from organised labour before the state begins to unjustly blackmail labour leaders.

– Comrade Kolawole James (JP)
TUC State Secretary
