The Speaker, Kogi State House of Assembly, Rt. Hon. Umar Imam Ahmed has pledged to assist business women in his Lokoja I state constituency with a N2million grant.
Imam made this known in Lokoja today during his tour of the five wards in his constituency.
He also pledged to offer scholarship to 50 youth in his constituency to enable them undergo training at the Nigeria-Korea Vocation Institute in Lokoja.
He challenged Kogi youth to acquire necessary vocational skills that will prepare them for the eventual take-off of Ajaokuta Steel Company.
According to him, the Federal Government has shown determination to kick-start the moribund Ajaokuta Steel company but lamented the lack of skilled personnel in Kogi state that will work there when it eventually takes off.
He said his desire to sponsor 50 youth from his Lokoja I constituency at the Nigeria-Korea Institute is to prepare them for the eventual take-off of Ajaokuta Steel Company.
Imam said unemployment will soon be a thing of the past in the state as the state House of Assembly under his watch is liaising with the Federal Government on how the project will be completed for the benefits of the people.
The company which was built during the then Soviet Union is 98% completed having gulped over $4billion and needs only $1billion to start up its first phase.
Meanwhile, no fewer than 150 artisans have benefited from the empowerment scheme sponsored by the Speaker.
