Following his administration’s commitment to turn around the fortunes of the state, Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello has called on the National Assembly to support the advocacy for the resuscitation of the moribund Ajaokuta Steel Company, saying that Kogi has unequalled advantage in solid mineral deposits awaiting exploration.
Governor Bello stated this on Monday, during a capacity building retreat organized by the National Assembly for its management staff.
The retreat with the theme: ‘Repositioning the National Assembly Management for efficient service delivery’, held at the Reverton Hotels, Lokoja, the state capital.
According to the Governor, Kogi is strategic in Nigeria’s drive for industrialization and economic development, saying that the state has unrivalled potentials in tourism, agriculture and solid mineral development.
His government, he said, is determined to unlock the enormous potentials of the state, noting that a lot has been achieved to right the wrongs of the past and project the abundant investment opportunities of the state to the world.
He pointed out that the state was now safe, secure and stable for tourism and investment, revealing that through his New Direction development blueprint, he has been able to turn around the tide of insecurity and hopelessness.
In his address at the ceremony, the Senate President, Dr. Bukola Saraki noted that the retreat became necessary in view of the need to strengthen the capacity of the workforce in realizing the legislative agenda of the 8th Assembly.
He stated that the present leadership of the Assembly places high premium on a productive and efficient management, urging them to brace up for task of helping the country out of the prevailing socio-economic challenges.
The Senate President, who lauded the organizers of the retreat for the choice of Kogi, described the state as a pride and treasure of the country in view of its huge human and mineral endowments, assuring that the National Assembly would continue to collaborate with the state government to realize its lofty vision.
