Kogi Seeks $2m to Tackle Erosion

Kogi State government said it is making efforts towards accessing $2 million intervention funds to fight the erosion menace ravaging the state.

The state governor, Capt. Idris Wada, who stated this yesterday during the visit of delegation of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project, NEWMAP, expressed concern over the devastating effect of erosion on the state, describing the situation as worrisome.

Wada was represented on the occasion by his deputy, Mr. Yomi Awoniyi.

He however, described the establishment of NEWMAP, an agency that would cater for ecological problems in the country as commendable.

“Following the dwindling allocation to the state, tackling the menace of erosion has become worrisome due to paucity of funds. The state will do all it can to access the $2million provided by NEWMAP for the fight against erosion in the state,” he said.

The Governor who eulogized the World Bank, and other organisations for coming to the aid of the state during the 2012 flood disaster that ravaged the state, promised to follow strictly the guidelines that would enable the state meet the June 30, deadline, as well as make judicious use of the funds if accessed.
