The Social Democratic Party (SDP) in Kogi state has suspended the chairman of Yagba West Local Government of the party, Mr Babajide Ikubolaje, over allegation of alleged gross misconduct and financial misappropriation.
The suspension followed the ratification of the letter of suspension given Ikubolaje by the Kogi west zonal executive by the executive committees of Odo Egbe Ward 02 and his local government.
The letter of suspension dated November 3, 2018, signed by 17 out of 22 members of the ward executives committee, addressed to Ikubolaje and copied the local government, zonal and state chairmen of the party, highlighted the offenses committed by the chairman.
The letter read in part, “We have noticed your acts of indiscipline in areas of fraud, sabotage, and misconduct.
In the context of Article 20 Section 2 of the Constitution of our party, acts of indiscipline include disloyalty, sabotage, disorderly behavior at meetings, theft, fraud, disrespect of the party leadership, immoral conduct, failure in fulfilling financial obligations and other obligations of membership, conviction for criminal offence involving moral turpitude and any other conduct deemed unacceptable to the party.
“In view of the foregoing, we are hereby constrained to suspend you as a member of our great party. Please be informed that our action is within the purview of the constitution of our party, as it confers the right on us as the organ of the party at Ward level to subject any of the aforementioned acts of indiscipline to appropriate punishments.”
Also, 12 of 14 ward chairmen and local government executives, in another letter addressed to Ikubolaje aligned with the ward 02 executives to suspend the embattled chairman. Mr Ade Yeye, an elder of the party in Ward 02 was appointed to assume the duties of SDP chairman in Yagba West local government in acting capacity. Kogi West SDP zonal chairman, Ben Ayo Abereoran, confirmed Ikubolaje’s suspension by his ward and local government executives as well as the approval is same by the zonal organ of the party in line with the party’s construction.
