A police officer allegedly shot and killed 45-year-old Ibrahim Ali Nbaba at his Ganaja livestock market, Lokoja on Tuesday.
According to an eye witness, Alhaji Umar Baba, the suspected SARS operative was said to have knocked down a little girl with his motorcycle.
“It happened at the front of our shop when a motorcyclist knockdown a small girl. We all ran to the scene to rescue the SARS operative and the victim. As the policeman made to leave, we advised that he should take the girl for treatment but he insisted that he’ll not,” he said.
According to Baba, an argument ensued between the suspect and passerby, who abandoned his motorcycle. Unknown to them, he had phoned his colleagues who rushed to the scene.
“Immediately his colleagues arrived, the suspect who was on mufti, rushed to the vehicle and picked his AK47 Riffle. All efforts made by some of his colleagues to stop him proved abortive as he boasted that he must kill today. True to his words, he opened fire at close range and gunned down Ibrahim Ali who was standing by my side”
