Kogi Ready to Fast Track Construction of Mass Houses

Access to land in Kogi State has been made fast and easy by the Capt Idris Wada’s administration towards facilitating provision of improved access to affordable housing.The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, made this known at the stakeholders implementation summit on enabling broader access to Housing finance for all Nigerians held at the Transcorp Hilton Hotel,Abuja.

The State Deputy Governor, said the process to also acquire titled documents in the state has also been fast track.

Awoniyi assured of the state government’s readiness to key into the federal government initiative of providing mass housing to the people with the take off of the NMRC later in the year.

Awoniyi described lokoja, the state capital as a landlocked city, but said the state governor has initiated a process where a vast land mass is opened through the opening up of the eastern flank by building road to create a land mass for housing and other development.

The State, Awoniyi disclosed is into partnership with the UN-Habitat to also design a city structure plan to make all the 21 LGA’s in the state as urban centres.

The Deputy Governor called for partnership and assistance from private developers,assuring investors and the Federal government of it desire to key into the new initiative of the Nigeria Mortgage Refinance Company in providing ten thousand houses before the end of 2014.

In her welcome remarks on the summit overview, the Coordinating Minister for the Economy and Minister for Finance, Ngozi the there will be a significant multiplier effect when the NMRC takes off.

Job and wealth creation,growing of the economy and poverty eradication will be benefits to the country according to the Finance Minister.

While noting that 1.6million million jobs were created last year, there is a yearly 1.8million new entrance into the market each year with an already accumulated 5.3million unemployed in the market.

The Finance Minister disclosed that the NMRC will provide employment as well as enable access to housing and financing for people in the middle and lower rung of the economy.

Also speaking, Mrs Akon Eyakenyi, Minister for Lands, Housing and Urban Development in her speech says she is optimistic that the NMRC will broaden and reduced issues regarding home access.

The Lands, Housing and Development Minister said 14 pilot states including Kogi State should strive to enhance the take off of the NMRC in their state’s by fulfilling their obligations of the shared responsibilities.

Mrs Eyakenya assured of her Ministry’s support to provide policies, strategies, and plan that will reduce housing deficiencies in the housing sector.

It would be recalled that President Goodluck Jonathan launched on 16 January, 2014 the NMRC, as part of his administration’s efforts to improve access to affordable housing finance for the citizenry.
