Kogi Ready for PPP in Education – Awoniyi

Towards fast tracking the development of the education sector in Kogi State, the present administration says it is ready to go into Public Private Partnership (PPP) with private individuals and organizations.

The Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this when he paid an official visit to Salem University in lokoja.

Awoniyi, described education as pivot and fulcrum of improved socio-economic development of the nation, said the State Government will partner with the Salem University towards improving the quality of employees for the State Government.

Awoniyi, commended the level of development the institution has attained within its relative short period of existence, said the vision and mission of the institution is in tandem with the transformation agenda of the Capt Idris Wada’s administration that places premium on self reliant.

The State Deputy Governor assured of government support that will help elevate the academic institution towards meeting its challenges of producing global leaders.

While noting that the present administration in the state has zero tolerance for thuggery, commended the skill acquisition and leadership training the school is impacting on the students.

The Deputy Governor, commended the academic standard so far set by the institution, lauded the courage, and divine guidance which propelled the setting up of the institution.

Awoniyi assured that in the spirit of partnership, government will work towards making the institution occupy its pride of place among private Universities.

He assured that the present administration will look into their request for assistance and for government presence in the institution in the form of physical structures.

In his remarks, Prof Joseph Adeola Fuwape, Vice Chancellor, Salem University, said the institution is the premier Private University in the State was approved and licensed by the federal government of Nigeria on the 17th of may 2007, began operation in September 2008.

The institution, Prof Fawupe disclosed places premium on leadership and spiritual transformation, presently has all its eleven courses accredited in 2011.

The Vice Chancellor disclosed that the institution aside promoting and enhancing talents and skills of people in selected fields of human endeavor, equip the students with the knowledge and skills necessary for them to participate at all levels of nation building.
