A former governor of Kogi State, Idris Wada, says he is seeking to return to office because the people of the state had called him to join the November 16 governorship race to save the state from “bad governance.”
Wada, a governorship aspirant of the People’s Democratic Party for upcoming election, was speaking in Lokoja yesterday during consultations with stakeholders.
He said he never tampered with local governments’ revenue allocations from federation account when he was in office between 2012 and 2015, daring anyone to challenge his claim.
He said he allowed council chairmen to utilise the available resources within the provisions of law, noting that local government remains a third tier of government and he respects that constitutional provision.
He alleged that non-payment of salaries had caused hardship.
Reacting through his Chief Press Secretary, Onogwu Muhammed, Governor Yahaya Bello said it was laughable that Wada whose administration “was marred by insecurity, underdevelopment and impoverishment” could accuse his government of poor governance.
“Wada is only trying to conjure political relevance among his kith and kin today after he was ousted in order to reclaim Kogi State from the Boko Haram and other forms of insurgencies the state witnessed during his reign. It is on record that he was voted out owing to the fact that his administration could not initiate any project in four years while insecurity overran the entire geography of the state while he was governor.”
