The Kogi State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party Presidential Campaign Council (PDPPCC) has condemned in strong terms the arrest of over three hundred of its members from across the state on the eve of election.
In a statement, Bode Ogunmola, Secretary of the PDP PCC described the arrest of PDP members by men of the Special Anti Robbery Squad (SARS) yesterday night, who broken into their houses and beating up women and children as uncalled for, barbaric, undemocratic, and an attempt to suppress the strength of the PDP.
The Kogi PDP PCC challenged the Inspector General of Police to call the Kogi State Police Commissioner of Police, Hakeem Busari to order.
He described the action of men of the SARS as running contrary to the pledge by the police to be neutral in tomorrow’s election.
Mr Ogunmola said the PDP PCC is calling for the immediate and unconditional release of the PDP members, pointing out that the peoples resolve to overwhelmingly vote for the PDP cannot be dampened by the unwarranted arrests.
The PDP PCC called the attention of the international community, observers and the national peace committee to the wrong that is been perpetrated in Kogi State by men of the SARS.
The PDP PCC says the actions of the police could not have been carried out without the instructions of the Kogi State Governor, who has made the police in the state a unit in government house.
The PDP PCC however assured his members that it is on top of the matter to effect their release, urged them not to allow the fear of the defeat by the APC led administration to dampen their spirit to vote out bad leadership and governance in Nigeria and in Kogi State.
