Kogi Oil: Ownership to Be Determined in The Next 6 Months

The crisis over the rightful ownership of the disputed Anambra oil wells between Kogi and Anambra States will be determined in the next six months.

Dr Mohammed Bose Ahmed, Director General, National Boundary Commission stated this in Lokoja at the joint meeting of Anambra/Kogi interstate boundary meeting held in Lokoja, yesterday.

The Director General Pointed out that the boundary under disputes were last demarcated in 1954, said development, population nations federalism, has necessitated the present need to carry out another demarcation.

The demarcation, Dr Mohammed noted will help resolve issues surrounding the boundaries, towards having amicable peace and to know the limits of the boundaries.

While noting that discoveries of natural resources, has made determination of boundaries in the country very difficult, said the present exercise to determine the Anambra/Kogi boundary was a Presidential directive, appealed for cooperation from the States involved.

In his remarks, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, Kogi State Deputy Governor and Chairman State Boundary Committee,who received the Presidential Committee, said the state will do all it can towards having an amicable resolution, urged that the exercise should be done in a manner that will enable the people to continue to live as brothers.

While appealing to border communities to allow government carry out its work in determining the true boundaries without rancor, he described Kogi and Anambra people as brothers who were united and showed empathy during the last flood that ravaged the two states.
