The National Youth Council of Nigeria (NYCN), Kogi State Chapter, has raised alarm over alleged ongoing attempts by certain individuals to extort unsuspecting persons under the guise of an electoral exercise.

In a statement issued in Lokoja on Wednesday, Usman Ogohi Samuel urged Kogi youths and aspirants to exercise caution and not fall prey to these fraudulent activities.

“It has come to our attention that announcements regarding the sale of forms and electoral guidelines for the purported NYCN Kogi State elections have been circulated. This is not only deceptive but also a direct attempt to mislead Kogi youths.

“We must emphasize that the matter concerning the leadership of the council is currently before a competent court of law. Until the court delivers its judgment, no legitimate electoral process can proceed.

“We advise all Kogi youths and aspirants to exercise caution and not fall prey to these fraudulent activities. The individuals behind this scheme, knowing they have no valid case, are attempting to exploit the situation by extorting money from unsuspecting individuals,” he said.

Ogohi said the NYCN will not be liable to anyone who engages in this illegitimate process or makes payments to unauthorized parties. He urged all youths to remain vigilant and prioritize the integrity of their collective cause over personal interests.

“As we await the court’s ruling, the NYCN remains steadfast in its commitment to transparency, accountability, and the unity of Kogi youths. Together, we can build a council that truly represents the aspirations of our youth constituency.”
