Kogi State Commissioner for Environment, Victor Omofaiye, has commended contractors handling the reconstruction and gully intervention project at the Greater Lokoja Water Works.

Omofaiye gave the commendation when the steering and technical committees of Nigeria Erosion and Watershed Management Project (NEWMAP), Kogi State, toured the facility on Friday.

The team led by Omofaiye and the State Project Coordinator of NEWMAP, Barr. Ladi Ahmed Jatto, noted that the reconstructed embankment at the water works is of top quality.

The State Project Coordinator stated that the embankment was in a pitiable condition before the intervention of Kogi state government, through NEWMAP.

She expressed confidence that the reconstructed embankment will preserve government’s investments in the water works and prevent the facility from natural disasters.

The contractor was directed to clean up the facility speedily and prepare to handover the site by the end of September, 2021.

The inspection of Greater Lokoja Water Works was the final lap of the 3-day assessment tour of ongoing and completed projects executed by NEWMAP across the state. The tour took the team to gully intervention sites in Agassa, Ozuri, Adum and Ogane Aji in Okene, Adavi, Olamaboro and Dekina LGAs respectively.

Omofaiye thanked the entire team for their active participation in the 3 day exercise and urged them to be fully committed to the overall success of the project in the state.

He expressed gratitude to Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for his unfettered support to NEWMAP, even in the face of dwindling resources in the state.
