The Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom and Chairman Ijumu Local Government Traditional Council in Kogi State, Oba Williams Olusegun Ayeni has appealed to the Federal Government to immediately rehabilitate the bad portions of Ikoyi and Ayere road which is currently in a dilapidated condition.
Oba Ayeni told newsmen that the roads were washed by heavy rains and high vehicular movement in recent times.
“As I am talking to you now, Ikoyi road is blocked and our people as well as travellers are stranded. Also, the Ajowa-Ayere road is in a bad condition and impassable for the people,” he noted.
According to him, the Local Government is a transit community linking Kogi State to South West and the North, saying if urgent steps are not taken, the development will affect the economic lives of the people.
“Ijumu is a transit community that links the South West to the North. The road from Ekiti to Kogi is bad, that of Ondo State to Kogi is also bad.”
He called on the Federal Government to come to the aid of the people to restore free vehicular movement in the affected roads.
Oba Ayeni added that despite efforts made by the Community and Local Government authority, the situation has deteriorated beyond control.
