Going public is usually our last option when every conceivable approach had failed. We want to use this medium to call on His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello (The white Lion of Kogi State) to honour the agreement the state government entered in with the Kogi state medical students nationwide, and to enlighten the public that such agreement has not been implemented!

In May last year, the kogi state government notify the public of the successful agreement with the kogi state medical students nationwide to be paid monthly stipend of 24,500 and in return upon graduation serve the state. This is to increase the manpower in health sector within the state.

Komsaite received this news with joy not just because of the stipend, but we were actually glad we now have a leader, a governor who understand that health sector deserve urgent attention! We were glad because we saw that as an opportunity to contribute to the development of our dear state and most of all, that will gradually leads to the phasing out of quackery in the state. It’s more than a year now since the state executive council under the amiable leadership of GYB gave approval to the proposal. It’s with sad mood that we use this medium to air our voice that this great gesture is yet to be implemented.

All efforts by the National executive council of KOMSA (kogi state medical students association) under the leadership of Com. Omeiza D.S to directly reach his Excellency as we believed he is a student’s friendly Governor proved abortive as His Aid had denied us access. The national executive wishes to inform His Excellency that both the pioneer excos and the current executive severally risked their life every month despite using their pocket money to facilitate prompt collation and submission of interested students forms to the state government earlier this year.

We are appealing to the government to clear the air as we have been made objects of ridicule by members of the association who are saying that the national executive connived with the government to deceive them. If the government is no longer capable of fulfilling their part of the agreement, it is better for them, to come out clear and appeal to the medical students who are currently in confusion as to what truly is going on. On the other hand, it will be appropriated and this government will definitely enter the “Guinness Book of KOMSA” if the government demonstrates their capability by paying.

We want to affirm we never doubted the capacity of His Excellency to pay and make the students happy. We wish His Excellency and the entire New Direction team a wonderful Sallah.

God bless Kogi State.

Signed:

OMEIZA D.S

National President, Kogi State Medical Students Association (KOMSA)
