The national executive council of Kogi State Medical Students Association (KOMSA) has called on Kogi State government to put an end to the incessant strike actions in the state’s health sector.
The students made the call in statement signed by the National President of KOMSA, Comrade Omeiza David Sunday.
KOMSA urged Kogi state government to employ same tactics it employed to enhance security in the state to end the recurring industrial actions in the health sector.
“The national executive council of the Kogi State Medical Students Association wish to appreciate His Excellency, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello, the Executive Governor of Kogi state, and his team for the security measures that has been put in place so far in the state that has yielded positive result, and for honouring the Kogi State Medical Students’ Association’s requests and pleas. We hope the agreement will be implemented as at when due and sustained for future generation. May the good Lord continue to guide you. Amen.
“We want to use this medium to implore the state government to replicate the same tactics that has produced positive result in the security sector to put an end to the incessant strike in the health sector of the state for the good of the entire Kogi people.
“The ongoing strike embarked upon by the Nigerian Medical Association (NMA), Kogi state Chapter has resulted in a significant halt in health care service delivery in the State and subsequent exposure of patients, undergoing treatment before the strike and those that will need medical care after the face-off , to an unfortunate fate.
“Aside patient care deterioration, it is unheard of for a “confluence state” not to experience unity, harmony and understanding between the Government and her physicians. Aside the fact that it does not speak well of the state, it does not present the state as a beacon of light it ought to be.
“Though it is unintentional, the friction between NMA and Kogi State government may be discouraging to some of Kogi Medical Students and doctors, home and abroad, to contribute to a healthy health sector in service, which is going to be “crippling” to the future of the health sector, and the state as a whole.
“It is our desire that our senior colleagues and elders in the medical profession and the state government come to the understanding of each other and see to it that the prestige of this great state is maintained despite the “little crack” in its “container” to a greater confluence State,” the statement read.
