The chairman Dekina local government area of Kogi state, Muhammed Ali, has said that kogi local governments are not viable to provide the needed grassroots development.
Muhammed who stated this in Mpatan community in Bassa local government during the commissioning of the PDP secretariat, said the local governments are not viable because the resources accruing to the councils are grossly inadequate.
He said, “To be honest the local government are not viable because the resources coming to them are grossly inadequate when compared to what has been coming before. The wage bill of all the local governments is too high. We are battling with wages and manage to pay salaries,”.

Muhammed who is also the chairman Northern LG forum, said despite the lean resources coming to them, there is no local government without structures on ground, saying that with staff verification exercise in the local government however, this would change.
He said the way out is to diversify the revenue generation base of the local government as well look into the ghost worker syndrome.
The LG boss said the PDP is the only party in Kogi state as people at the grass root are defecting from other political parties to the PDP, saying that for local government to build a party secretariat shows that the party is strong.
He added that despite the defection by some governors to the All Progressive Congress, the PDP is still the strongest party in the country, and called on defecting members of the party to note that the people that gave them the mandate can also vote them out.
