Kogi State Governor Idris Wada has said that there is no reason for local government chairmen to owe workers’ salary as nobody tampered with their monthly allocations

Wada, who stated this during an interactive session with journalists in Lokoja, said federal allocations to local governments get to them intact.

The governor said the councils have no reason to pay salary based on percentage every month, as he has given the chairmen free hand to operate.

He said he was shocked when he discovered during the interaction that some local government chairmen are paying half salary why others have adopted a system to offset the backlog of salaries.

“It is only the statutory deductions that are taken away from the allocation. It is very disturbing that some local government councils are paying only a certain per cent of workers’ salary. When people talk about local government autonomy, I look at them because it cannot work,” he said.
