The Senior Special Assistant to Kogi State Governor on Economic Affairs, Honourable Remi Eniola has declared that the era of money politics in Yagba West local government is over.
In an interaction with newsmen in Lokoja, Eniola expressed confidence that the chance of Peoples’ Democratic Party (PDP) will win the forthcoming local government in Yagba West hands down.
“The era of the moneybags are over in Yagba West. What happened during the last House of Representatives and House of Assembly election in Yagba West attests to this. Our people are tired of the moneybags who share small money during elections and milk the treasury dry as soon as they get to office. No moneybag can terrorize us again”, he said.
“Our chairmanship candidate, Engr Ayo Makanjuola is a matured gentleman and he has been a philanthropist all these while. Some years ago, he built a library for his community and he has also established a hotel and another company here in Yagba West instead of establishing these in bigger cities that will fetch him more money”
Hon. Remi believes a wind of change is blowing across yagba federal constituency. He said the chairmanship candidates in the three local governments that makes up yagba land are well established professionals who have climbed the ladder of success in their respective professions.
“Otunba F.G. Ibrahim in Yagba East, Folorunsho Daniyan in Mopa Amuro and Ayo Makanjuola in Yagba West, these men are not hungry politicians. I believe there is a wind of change blowing across yagbaland”
On the recent crisis that raised a lot of dust in Yagba West, Hon Eniola said the issue of non-payment of salaries and leave bonus has been resolved after the intervention of the Deputy Governor, Arc Yomi Awoniyi, Elders and the Supervisory Council of which he is a member.
We in the supervisory council – Myself, the Commissioner for Agric, Dr Bolarin, Hon. Sesan Orebiyi, Princess Falade and Hon Rinde Asagun – met with the DLG to know why the local government staff are being owed salaries and leave bonus.
The DLG told us the former Liaison Officer, Hon Tunji Aro, is yet to hand over to him. I challenged the DLG that cannot feign ignorance of the activities of the local government given his position in the council. I and other members of the supervisory council insisted that local government staff must be paid all outstanding salaries without further delay.
“Can you imagine a local government staff whose salary is just N20,000 being paid 20% of his salary at the end of the month? This is ridiculous! It is unacceptable!”
“I, as an advocate for the masses, believe this is not right and I joined my voice with other elders to mandate the DLG to pay all outstanding salaries. We thank God, normalcy has returned to Yagba West now”
