Kogi Labour Leaders Gives Nod to Health Insurance Scheme for Workers

Following the successful presentation of the health benefit package of Kogi State Health Insurance Agency to the leadership of the Kogi state chapter of the Nigeria Labour Congress (NLC), the organised labour has agreed to key into the agency’s scheme in the state.

The presentation which was made by the executive secretary of the agency, Dr. Adekunle Aledare on Tuesday at the headquarters of Kogi NLC along Ganaja road Lokoja was geared towards enlightening the leadership of the organised labour on the health benefit package of the agency to workers in the state.

Comrade Ojo Ranti, who spoke on behalf of the chairman Kogi NLC,  Comrade Onu Edoka at the closing of the presentation, said the scheme is laudable and “we look forward to its take off.”

Comrade Ranti, however, appealed to the state government to speed up the implementation of the new minimum wage to beef up workers salaries adding that it would go a long way in enhancing the participation of civil servants in the health insurance scheme.

Earlier, Comrade Onu Edoka in his opening remark thanked Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello for signing into law the bill establishing the Kogi state health insurance agency.

He charged the management team to be transparent in their activities as soon as the agency’s programme fully takes off.

The permanent secretary in the office of the head of service, Mr Eric Aina who represented the Head of Service at the presentation appealed to the labour leaders to acknowledge the health benefit package of the agency and make sacrifices.

He stressed that when the programme is fully implemented it would reduce out of pocket expenses on health for Kogi civil servants.

Earlier, the Executive secretary of the agency, Dr Aledare said the agency is fully committed to the success of the scheme in the state.

He added that the agency would ensure that quality and affordable health care services is provided to Kogi state workers and all the residents of the state.
