Activities at the headquarters of the Independent National Electoral Commission in Kogi State on Monday and Tuesday were almost at a ground zero as the staffs of the organisation await the arrival of a yet-to-be-named new Resident Electoral Commissioner.

Following the death of the Kano State REC, Munkaila Abdullahi, which occurred last week, the Kogi State REC, Halilu Pai, was drafted to take over the affairs of INEC in the state but has yet to be replaced.

Our correspondent, who was at the Marine Road, Lokoja, headquarters, Tuesday, learnt that the earlier meetings scheduled for Monday and Tuesday could not hold due to the absence of the REC, who will oversee the meetings.

A source at the INEC state headquarters told our correspondent that the Rivers State REC, Gesila Khan, has been tipped to replace Pai.

The source said, “We are preparing for Saturday’s elections but the arrival of the new REC for Kogi is what is really hampering our actions.

“Since we are not doing governorship election here in Kogi, we don’t have much to do but the earlier we prepare for it, the better the success we will record in the election.”
