Kogi Harps on Training of Civil Servants for Productivity

Kogi State government has appealed to civil servants in the state to continue to seek knowledge through training and retraining, so as to bring out the best in their performance.

Kogi State Deputy Governor, Yomi Awoniyi, stated this in a message to the in -house training workshop on work ethics and productivity for staff of the deputy governor’s office.

He disclosed that the state civil service would record major breakthrough when training of staff is given the desired attention.

Awoniyi said the present administration of Captain Idris Wada is poised to use the civil service as a model in achieving good governance and transformation and urged the participants to make better use of the workshop so as to make meaningful impact in the state.

The Deputy Governor called for a change in work attitude that will improve productivity, promising that the administration of Captain Wada is working round the clock to ensure that the welfare and wellbeing of workers in the state service is not compromised and relegated.

Awoniyi who was represented by the Deputy Chief of Staff, Richard Akanmode stated that in a world that is more dynamic and driven by information, the structures of governance which rest on the civil service, must be reposition ed through knowledge acquisition and competency test.

The State Deputy Governor assured of in house and other training programmes for staff of the office of the Deputy Governor to enable them build capacity and gain exposure.

In his remarks, the State Head of Service Dr Moses Atakpa described the civil service as the nerve centre of governance which requires constant review through training and retraining of its staff.

Atakpa disclosed that periodic training will help equip the workers for greater service delivery and urged workers to strive for wisdom and knowledge that will help government in the implementation of its programmes and policies.

He commended the office of the Deputy Governor for the innovation, and urged other organization in the state service to emulate the idea that is geared towards bringing back the lost glory of the civil service. In his remarks, Adavi Abraham, Permanent Secretary, Administration and Parastatal, Office of the Deputy Governor, said the workshop which is the third in the series was aimed at acquinting staff with the basic rudiment of the service which he noted is been eroded but noted that it has adversely affected performance in work places.

Mr Adavi also disclosed that the training will enable participants acquire the relevant knowledge and skills that will enable them meet modern day challenges of administration that is confronting the civil service in a democracy.
