Yesterday, the worst Governor in the history of Kogi state reportedly said; “a tenant cannot chase a landlord from his house”. As ironical as the statement could be as it pertains Kogi state political situation, it goes a long way in telling us that there is a fundamental error in the psychological, social and political biology of the man called Yahaya Bello.
First and foremost, Yahaya Bello ought to know that Kogites never elected him, either by commission or omission, to become the landlord of the Lugard House, rather, it was an unfortunate political drama that made him become the so-called Landlord that he calls himself. He came in through the back door and by God’s grace, we the tenants will evict him out of the Lugard House.
Another reason why the Tenants must chase away the real tenant is to ensure good governance return to Lugard House. In the real sense, Yahaya Bello is an illegal political and undemocratic tenant. Sincerely speaking, the performance thermometer of the administration is reading almost less than 10%. Basic education, health, agriculture, transportation and other sectors of the economy are at near collapsing state, giving rise to hunger and poverty.
Re-election is based on performance not mere propaganda. How will a government think of re-election or still remain a political landlord, when the performance and governance are missing in the democratic equation of the state. Also is the question of accountability and transparency. A landlord that collects rents and cannot repair the house for the tenants to leave comfortably is not worth been a landlord and must be chased away.
Yahaya Bello administration has collected over 200 billion naira in revenue from bailout funds, Paris club refund, statutory allocations, as well as IGR. Most unfortunately, the government due to its embezzlement and fraud tinted ideology, can account for those monies collected. Funny enough, the embezzlement quest and romance led to the disappearance of students Bursary portal registration fees. The administration can’t answer Kogites on how the monies were spent. The administration is financially confused and such confusion is what has made the state to become financially bankrupt and economically non- viable to attract both foreign and local investors.
A wicked Landlord does not deserve the title of ‘landlordship’. Imagine an administration who despite huge financial resources available to it will deliberately refuse to pay its workers salaries for over 20 months. This has led to the death of many workers, chronic poverty and hunger for the workers. Most worrisome is the case of the senior citizens, the pensioners.
On November 16, Kogites will romance landlords who are the epitome of humanity. The political equation is simple: Bello must go to bring sanity to the socio-economic and political landscape of the state.
