Member representing Ankpa Federal Constituency of Kogi State in the House of Representatives, Hon Abdullahi Ibrahim Ali Halims has described the ruling of the Kogi State governorship election petition tribunal in favour of the Governor Yahaya Adoza Bello and his Deputy, Chief Edward David Onoja as an affirmation of the will of the people.
The tribunal sitting in Abuja on Monday 18th May, 2020 dismissed the petition filed by the governorship candidate of the Social Democratic Party (SDP), Ms Natasha Akpoti challenging the eligibility of the Governor and his Deputy in the November 2019 governorship election as “most unsuccessful” and ordered the petitioner to pay a sum of one hundred thousand Naira to all parties.
Halims, in a statement on Monday afternoon, said that the decision of the tribunal was not unexpected because of the pedigree, outstanding credentials and successful career of the duo before joining active politics.
The lawmaker commended the tribunal for standing on the path of truth by relying on the evidences presented by witnesses during the proceedings and congratulated the people of Kogi state for yet another victory of their mandate.
He, however, regretted that some interests in the state are still working tirelessly to upturn the will of the people in their quest to clinch to power against the will of the people.
The federal lawmaker reiterated that no amount of scheming, machinations and collaboration can surmount the support the people of the state have for the Governor who have shown so much commitment to the relative peace and security enjoyed in the state.
He thereafter prayed God to continue to guide and defend the Governor, his amiable deputy, and the will of the good people of Kogi state.
