Kogi State gubernatorial aspirant and chieftain of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), Chief Sunday Umoru has called on son and son-in-law of former Governor Ibrahim Idris to steer clear of the governorship election in the state.

In a press statement sent to Kogireports, Umoru urged the son of the former governor Alhaji Abubakar Idris and Engr. Musa Wada, brother to the immediate former governor Capt. Idris Wada to stay clear of the Kogi gubernatorial race and rather support whoever that emerges as the PDP candidate at the primary election of the party.

He noted that as contenders, per chance, either of them can emerge as the PDP candidate through the influence of a father who was a former governor, or a brother who was also a former governor.

Chief Umoru cited the Kwara State political breakage force called the ‘OTO-GE’ movement which removed the almighty Saraki political dynasty from power, replacing it with a servant power authority where the servants to the master takes over power of authority instead of the abnormal pattern of placing a son ship personality on the people.

According to him, the ‘OTO-GE’ movement was largely responsible for the catastrophic defeat of the PDP in Kwara State.

Similarly, Chief Umoru also cited the great fall of the Owele, Gov. Rochas Okorocha who preferred to replace himself with his son in-law against the will of the people but failed woefully.

“Because all his efforts to impose his son in-law as the next governor did not go down well with the people of Imo State, they turned their back against a two-term governor and voted otherwise. However, PDP was lucky to have been the beneficiary of all that played out, to emerged as the winner in the state.

“The Kogi state PDP and stakeholders should forthwith, begin to address the issue of a possible nepotism and ensure that the premise of electing the right candidate to fly the party’s flag and coast to victory come November should not be dependent on the highest bidder, godfatherism and nepotism.

“The party leadership in the state must note that any attempt to force a god son or blood son aspirations on the party will spell doom for the state. It will only end up distracting the goodwill that the PDP has already built over Yahaya Bello’s avalanche of failures,” he said.

Chief Umoru, in his own perspective, said it will be difficult for the PDP to defeat Gov. Bello with a known candidate especially the “Household Names”, and including anyone who has held any political position in Kogi state.

The chieftain lamented that this is not a matter of asking anyone not to exercise his or her constitutional rights, but because the stakes are high now going by the outcome of the presidential and the state assembly elections which were all won by the All Progressive Congress (APC).

“There are agitations here and there in the state already as a result of purported nepotism that could lead to political breakage force like the ‘OTO-GE’ movement in Kwara State that can thwart victory for PDP in November,” he warned.

Umoru reiterates his commitment and determination to make his case and undrape his blueprint that will unshackle Kogi State from underdevelopment and hardship to the people of Kogi State ahead of the party’s primary election to secure the ticket as the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party.
