Ahead of the November Kogi governorship election, Kabba-born politician, Hon. Mathew Olatunde Ajigi has been named Special Assistant on New Media to Hon. Tajudeen Yusuf, the Director General of Musa/Aro Campaign Committee.
Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja on Friday, Ajigi expressed confidence that the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) will emerge victorious in the November election.
He charged Kogi electorate to brace up for the challenges ahead as the November 16 election will be a defining moment for the state.
“At the moment, the good people of Kogi state are anxiously waiting for the election day to come. They have been subjected to untold hardship, pains, disappointments and embarrassment in the last three and half years. They cannot wait to change the fortunes of the state for good through the ballot.
“Move round the state; from Chikara to Lokoja, from Emiworo to Ochadamu, from Irepeni to Okene, from Idah to Anyigba or from Obajana to Egbe, the story is the same. Our people are bemoaning the dearth of infrastructures across the state, the poor state of education, the pathetic welfare of civil servants and pensioners. We never had it this bad since the creation of Kogi state.
“The current administration has little or no regard for the citizens. This is so clear in the way and manner they have governed the state so far. Rather than making the common man happy, they spend much time and resources on wooing ‘Big Men’ across the state as if it is the rich in the society that will force masses to vote for them in November. It is so ridiculous that they place more premium on Abuja ‘big boys’ than the people they swore to govern. The pay back time is here!
“We are very clear about what we want as a people and we will express our feelings through the ballots on Saturday, November 16, 2019,” he said.
Ajigi called on leaders and stakeholders of the party to intensify campaign efforts to ensure “victory that cannot be rigged” on election day.
Ajigi was a member of the influential Change Initiatives group that worked for the victory of All Progressive Congress (APC) during the 2015 governorship election in Kogi state. He had since left APC for PDP.
