Foremost Okun students leader and youths mobilizer, Ajagun Opeyemi Samuel has counselled Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Bello against intimidating the voters before, during and after the forthcoming governorship election.
Speaking at the Okun Day Celebration in University of Abuja on Friday, Ajagun said that the governor should do away with the thought of using the security apparatus to undermine the political rights of the people.
He said that some people are already intimidated to come out and cast their votes in the forthcoming election due to the fear of violence and massive intimidation emanating from the government and its security agents.
Ajagun encouraged the governor to play by the rules of the game to guarantee a free, fair and transparent election where the wish of all Kogites will come to pass.
He also challenged some respected leaders of Okun extraction for endorsing the governor despite his rating among the masses.
“Let our conscience judge us if Gov. Yahaya Bello has performed to expectation. What was the reason why our leaders endorse him? Did they advise him rightly to pay the civil servant’s salaries? Did they tell him about our bad roads or the conditions of our dilapidated schools? Did they bargain well for him to give power to the West whenever he’s leaving? Or what was their reason?

“The interest of the people should come first because they are the real electorate to decide their fate themselves, no individual or group of people should endorse anybody without consulting the real voters,” he said.
Ajagun said that the primary purpose of any government is to ensure security of lives and properties, prompt payment of salaries, prioritizing the welfare of the people through construction of roads, provision of well equipped health centers, provision of drinkable water among others.
He commended the governor for taking bold steps in the area of security, noting that Kogi state was a den of kidnappers and terrorists before the governor came and made the state a hub of investors.
He urged the governor to pay the salaries of workers and pensioners who have been successfully screened, adding that payment of salary should not be a big deal when the state is receiving a monthly allocation from the federal government.
