Kogi Group Ask Gov Wada to Sack Health Commissioner, Idris Omede

A group, Kogi good governance, KGG, has called for the sack of the Commissioner For Health, Dr. Idris Omede, over alleged illegal diversion of     Meningitis Type A vaccines in the state.

In a statement in Abuja, the National President of the association, Dr.Makoju Dan. Kolawole  said it is now a thing of concern for any reasonable indigene of kogi state to check the growing corruption among political office holders in the state who have amass un-quantifiable wealth for themselves in the state.

He appealed to governor, Captain Idris Wada to immediately look at the menace and sack the commissioner who have constituted himself to an institution in the state.

It would be recalled that the state government has taken delivery of over three million doses of Cerebro-Spinal Meningitis Type-A Vaccines for the treatment and immunization of  more than 2.7 million Kogi indigenes from age 1-29.

Dr Idris Omede, the state Commissioner for Health who disclosed this while inspecting the vaccines and materials recently said the supplies were meant to prosecute the campaign against possible outbreak of the killer disease.

Omede said that there were various species of meningitis but the Type-A, tagged “Men-A”, was most prevalent and cause of millions of deaths in Africa, adding: “It normally comes between November and April of the following year.”

The commissioner said that the campaign was expected to cover age 1 to 29 because it constituted about 70 per cent of any population cluster globally and translates into about 2.7 million of Kogi population.

The items however were not delivered to the appropriate authorities in the state.  A member of the group said the vaccines are being sold by some officials of the ministry of health in the state.
