“…A state that is owing months of salaries is wasting money on buying DSTV kits for World Cup. These people are confused” ~ Kogi citizen.
The 2018 World Cup is a Nigerian project. We are all excited about it. If you look into the time variation between Nigeria and Russia , some matches happen late hour while some day time. How can you relish the atmosphere of watching the dribbles, dazzles and the chorus-analysis moving on 17.59 (beer) with fish sellers enjoying sales under an energetic crowd that is protected by Officers of the Nigerian Police Force?
Safe. Secure. Safe and secure.
The truth is, from every submission, I have seen that salaries have been the most sensitive to my people. Infact, most of them do not want to be receptive to any other thing except the salary card is placed on the table.
Well, I can understand that part of your concern. However, if you look into this gesture very well, it still says that Governance is not only about payment of salaries. You can get touchy about it still but it remains the truth. It is more like to say, since salaries are owed for some months, investment in security should be stopped until salaries are paid. That is an emotional argument. Or you can also say, because months of salaries are owed, the Ministry of Health should not grant emergency relief in medical assistance to anyone until salaries are paid. It therefore means that there are different segments of the society, vis-a-vis interests.
Dis one na for di youths o. Na wi own. It is not everyone in Kogi state that is a civil servant, infact less than 10% of the population is.
The 25 viewing centers across the 21 Local Government Areas in the state is not a bad idea. I was in a meeting with Nda Aaron sometime ago where the Association of Viewing Centers In Kogi state approached him. They mentioned that Government support in provision of some relief for their jobs would foster peace as many Kogi youths are ardent lovers of sports. They also requested for security during matches. You remember how BokoHaram take advantage of this? How so, the unscrupulous elements take the opportunity to fight, destroy properties and extort people of their gadgets.
This World Cup is not going down that way.
I can’t for sure say if this program is coming under that auspice.
Don’t be angry yet.
Many youths tear boxers and attention during football matches. Many men abandon their homes to enjoy the escape. Plenty women are also joining the foray.
While the atmosphere is wired in love and peace? It is an experience.
It is exciting. Everything divides us in Nigeria, football is a unifying event. Kogi State would not miss the opportunity to create one minute atmosphere for that.
Go Nigeria, the youths of Kogi state are behind you.
