Executive Secretary of the State Emergency Management Agency (SEMA), Hon. Atimah Mouktar has reiterated Kogi State Government’s commitment to fight hunger in the state.
Speaking with newsmen in Lokoja on Monday, Atimah said Governor Usman Ododo has declared a state of emergency on hunger.
Atimah explained that the Governor is genuinely concerned about the current economic challenges faced by people in the state.
According to him, the state is expecting forty three trucks of grains, ranging from sorghum to maize, millet and gaari, adding that the state has already taken delivery of twenty three trucks.
He noted that effort has been put in place to ensure that the palliatives get to the people that need the items, pointing out that loopholes of diversion will be blocked.
The Executive Secretary explained that effective and efficient disaster management is one of the priorities of the present administration, noting that the necessary political-will, will be deployed to manage disaster.
While promising to bring innovations that will enhance disaster management, Mr. Atimah called on those living along flood prone areas to move to higher ground.
